Wish Sowon Yang
MFT Trainee | Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) | Co-Author | Creative Arts Professional
Welcome! My name is Wish Sowon Yang, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist trainee at Western Seminary. I also hold a master’s degree in Natural Science. Originally from Korea, I am fluent in Korean and bring both a scientific lens and a faith-based worldview into my therapeutic work.
My primary focus is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—an evidence-based approach that helps individuals identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns. I believe that healing begins with the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2), and I aim to help clients build resilience, improve emotional well-being, and experience meaningful personal growth through a blend of psychological insight and spiritual encouragement.
CBT offers space for flexibility and integration, allowing me to incorporate a Christian understanding of the human person. I believe transformation happens uniquely for each individual, and that modeling the life of Jesus can inspire new perspectives in the healing process—while remaining open and respectful to those from non-religious backgrounds. This openness creates a deeply personal and spiritually grounded journey for every client.
My background in the performing arts—including modeling, acting, and musical theater—has shaped my understanding of human expression and emotional depth. These experiences help me connect with clients authentically, using empathy, creativity, and genuine presence to honor each person’s story.
For over eight years, I served as a parent instructor at a charter school, and for more than 15 years, I have taught and served in my home church’s programs. These roles have strengthened my insight into family dynamics, community care, and the importance of intergenerational healing.
I am committed to providing a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and supported. My heart is to walk alongside individuals as they seek healing, purpose, and the transformative love of Christ.
In addition to my counseling work, I am the co-author of Asian American Chronicles, a project devoted to cultural identity, healing through storytelling, and amplifying underrepresented voices. I see storytelling as a sacred act—one that reflects the redemptive narrative God is writing in each of our lives.
