Executive Director

Daniel signed on at Advent in July 2002 as Resource Development Associate. After graduating with a BS in Business Administration (with a concentration in Finance) from San Jose State University, he was promoted to Director of Resource Development, where he served for the next three years. In 2007, he took on the role of Chief Administrative Officer. Daniel become Advent’s Executive Director in August 2014.

Daniel enjoys sports, darts, cards, music, movies, politics, and financial markets.

Dr. Christian O'Neil, MD

Medical Director

Dr. O’Neil joined the Advent Group Ministries team July 2018. He oversees the quality of medical care provided in the Residential Recovery Program, The Nest, and StepUp! Outpatient Program. He is well versed in Substance Use/Abuse as well as Mental Health challenges that face our youth in treatment.

Bruce Pickett

Bruce Pickett

Director of Counseling Services

Bruce Pickett, Director of Counseling Services, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked at Advent since 1989. He has held positions in residential, outpatient, and counseling services as a clinician and supervisor. He grew up in San Jose and attended San Jose State University for his Child Development and Social Work degrees. Bruce is thrilled when working with a client who is discovering and growing as well as supervising new therapists to be the best they can be.

Carol Fryer

Director of Human Resource

“For me, being able to gain experience and knowledge in an atmosphere that is sensitive to God gives me a foundation on which to better help those children who are hurt, abused and confused.”

Prior to joining Advent, Carol worked for Bethany University in Santa Cruz, CA, and for 11 years assisted her husband in the Youth Ministry at Cathedral of Faith Church. Raised in Spokane, Washington, she attended Northwest Christian High School and went on to study Psychology at Bethany College here in the Bay Area. Carol has been a part of Advent Group Ministries for over 20 years, serving in the Foster Care and Human Resources Departments.

Carol enjoys sports, reading, and singing professionally with her husband through their ministry, DCF Ministries.

Roberto Ma, M.A.

Roberto Ma, M.A.

Director of Outpatient Services

Roberto has been with Advent since September of 2014. He has worn different hats in the agency: Initially hired as an Addiction Counselor, later became a Family Counselor and Associate Director of Outpatient Services. Roberto also volunteers his time providing therapy to Spanish speaking clients at the Counseling Department.

Roberto attended UCSD (Biology, BS) and Western Seminary (MA in Marital and Family Therapy, and Addiction Studies Certificate).
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and reading about 3-ologies (psychology, theology and technology).

Bryanna came to work at Advent in 2012 as a live-in Residential staff at the girls home motivated by her passion to end the cycles of addiction which she has witnessed firsthand in her families lives. After serving 7 years in Residential, she currently is the Director of Stakeholder Relations working closely with Advents Executive Director and Board to continue to promote the mission of Advent, to break the cycles of abuse and addiction. Bryanna resigns in the Redwoods of the Santa Cruz mountains, which she loves to run and spend time with her family in the beautiful outdoors.
